Join us Friday, August 4 at Mulberry Art Gallery for the opening exhibition of Kamela Eaton’s
I Dream of Jeannie: A Visual Love Letter to My Family
With her latest collection of work, artist Kamela Eaton creates a time machine of sorts. All at once, her paintings magically seem to whisk us back to the future and home again. Inspired by old family snapshots and other vintage photographs, Eaton reconstructs imagery of day-to-day moments into monochromatic vignettes often infused with vibrant color or surreal elements to convey the emotional echoes of time, place and memory. The title of the exhibition, taken from the 1960s sitcom, incapsulates both the her mother’s name Irma Jean – fondly called “Jeannie” by friends and family and childhood memories of sitting around the television with faces illuminated by the flickering light.
