Rhythm & Bloom brings together the powerful voices of Kansas City-based artists Taylar Sanders and Harold Smith, whose works celebrate and reimagine Black identity through bold color, rich textures, and deeply personal narratives.
Through painting, mixed media, and assemblage, Harold Smith explores the complexities of Black masculinity and identity. His work challenges media-driven perceptions and uplifts the beauty of everyday Black life.
“My work is about giving visibility to the overlooked, about finding harmony in identity. Through art, we reclaim space, we bloom in ways history never expected us to.”
Taylar Sanders paints with expressive brushwork and vibrant hues, creating intimate portraits that honor the dualities of Black existence—strength and softness, warmth and resilience.
“When I paint Black men, I want to show them in peace, in softness. When I paint Black women, I show their warmth, their love, their duality of strength and delicacy.”
Together, Smith and Sanders offer a powerful visual dialogue—an invitation to witness Blackness in full bloom.
